Since the middle of the 19th century, Pomaire, Chile, has been producing distinctive earthenware that is both functional and decorative. The artisans have preserved the tradition of working with clay using the same techniques that have been handed down from generation to generation. Each piece dries naturally, and then is smoothed and burnished with an agate stone before being fired. No varnish or glaze is used. Defects and discolorations and unique to each piece, and in no way affect performance. All Pomaire items are lead free, oven safe up to 450°F, electric stove top safe with a diffuser, and microwave safe. | |||
